TO THE HONORABLE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of William "Sully" Sullivan.
Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.
|1010|RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber learned with great sadness that William J. "Sully" Sullivan, one of the giants of the Las Vegas casino industry, passed away on March 31, 2011, at the age of 78; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Sullivan attended Saint Ignatius High School and graduated from Notre Dame University, where he still holds a record for his extraordinary basketball skills; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan, the quintessential success story, owned a well-known Irish bar called "Sully's" in Chicago before moving to Las Vegas 30 years ago to work in the gaming industry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan, a charismatic and legendary casino executive, worked at Caesar's Palace, MGM Grand, Rio, Tropicana and finally Bally's, where he was promoted to senior credit
executive, a position he held until his retirement in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Renowned for his kind and gentle heart, Mr. Sullivan will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and by the countless people whose lives were touched by his very presence; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan was married to his wife, Nancy, until her death and they were the proud parents of six children, Kim, Kathy, Susan, Janet, William Jr., and the late Judy; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and his ability to live it to the fullest endeared Mr. Sullivan to his family, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Although Mr. Sullivan will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues, his memory will live on in their hearts forever; and
