Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith a resolution regarding our departing friend and colleague, Alderman
Daley.
Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber are proud to congratulate our friend and colleague Alderman Vi Daley on her retirement from the City Council after twelve years of outstanding and dedicated service to the people of the 43rd Ward and the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the Lincoln Park community for over forty years, prior to her long and distinguished career as an elected official, Alderman Daley diligently served as the Chief of Staff to former Alderman Charles Bernardini and as the Executive Director of Friends of Lincoln Park, a not-for-profit advocacy group; and
WHEREAS, First elected to the Chicago City Council in 1999, Alderman Daley has served the City Council with honor and distinction as the Vice-Chair of the Committees on Historical Landmark Preservation and Zoning, and as a member of the Committees on Budget and Government Operations; Committees, Rules and Ethics; Economic, Capital and Technology Development; Finance; Parks and Recreation; and Special Events and Cultural Affairs; and
WHEREAS, A champion for the safety and well-being of the residents of her Ward and all Chicagoans, Alderman Daley has sponsored and co-sponsored several ordinances and initiatives addressing such wide-ranging causes as protecting excavation damage victims, limiting the number of branch banks on pedestrian-oriented commercial streets, and preserving historic landmarks, including the designation of the Armitage-Halsted District as a Chicago landmark; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Daley has actively worked to bring extensive capital improvements to the 43rd Ward, including improved lighting and landscaping, pedestrian-friendly streets, pedest...
