Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith a resolution regarding our departing friend and colleague, Alderman Schulter.
Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber are proud to congratulate our friend and colleague, Alderman Eugene ("Gene") Schulter, on his thirty-six years of dedicated service to the people of the 47th Ward and the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Schulter is a lifelong resident of the North Side neighborhood he has served; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, at age 26, Alderman Schulter was elected to the Chicago City Council as one of the youngest aldermen ever to serve in this distinguished body; and
WHEREAS, A progressive leader, who believed in empowering his constituents to shape their own destiny through community meetings and regular interaction with their elected representative, Alderman Schulter worked tirelessly with neighborhood organizations and local business leaders to develop and fund programs to better the lives of his constituents; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his storied political career, Alderman Schulter served as chairman of the City Council Committee on License and Consumer Protection; Committee on Parks and Recreation; Committee on Cable Television; and Committee on Historical Landmark Preservation. At various times, he also served as a member ofthe Cbmmittee on the Budget and Government Operations; Committee on Finance; Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; Committee on Traffic Control and Safety; and Committee on Zoning; and
WHEREAS, A respected and effective legislator, Alderman Schulter's many citywide accomplishments include spearheading the drive to streamline the City's business licensing process; securing passage of a comprehensive Landmark Ordinance to preserve and protect Chicago's historic buildings and works o...
