TRIBUTE TO HORACE CLEVELAND BROY SR,
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted Horace Cleveland Broy Sr. eternal life on December 7th, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Horace Broy, Sr. was born March 22, 1913 to Annabel and Leland Banks in Lexington, Mississippi, he was third out of six children. His parents were charter members of the mother church COGIC. All Saints Industrial School in Lexington, Mississippi was the school he attended as well as his mother who was a master teacher; and
WHEREAS, Horace Broy Sr. was a curious and industrious young man who learned many trades and at the age of 18, left Mississippi to pursue his career here. He worked in numerous creative and decorating trades as well as employed at the DuPont Paint Co., rising through the ranks of 35 men to become a supervisor. In 1955, he was elected as the president of the Local Painters Union.; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, Horace took over the responsibility after the passing of his beloved wife, Julia, as the 61st and Sangamon Block Club President and community organizer. He has been recognized as well as received numerous recommendations and awards from citywide officials. One of his awards was the Best Neighborhood and Home Gardening.
WHEREAS, Horace Cleveland Broy is survived by his loving children: Horace Broy Jr., Theresa, Brenda, Herman, Denise, Judith, Pamela, Crystal, and Anna Bell, 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, 4 nieces, 1 nephew, numerous great nephews and nieces as well as a host of relatives and friends.
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of the passing of Horace Broy, Sr. by the Honorable Jo Ann Thompson Alderman of the 16th Ward; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 4th Day of May, 2011 AD, do hereby express our sincere sorrow at the passing of Horace Cleveland Broy Sr. and extend our deepest condolences to his family and all those whose lives he touched.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Horace Cleveland Broy/iSr.
