BTBCIS ' tne evening of January 28, 2011, a man was walking home in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, when he was approached by three individuals who demanded that their victim turn over his money and cell phone to them; and
WHEREAS, One offender brandished a knife and another threatened the victim with a long-barreled revolver. They then searched the victim's pockets for other valuables; and
WHEREAS, Unbeknownst to the accosted man, 13,h District Chicago Police Officers Jacob Molina (Star #7626), Peter F. Legler (Star #4310), Michael J. Butzen (Star #11307) and Mariano Garcia (Star #7714) had spotted the trio of offenders an hour earlier in the evening; noticed that they fit the description of three suspects involved in other robberies in the area; and, using unmarked squad cars and a foot patroljigd placed the trio under surveillance; and
WHEREAS, About an hour after the surveillance operation was initiated, Officers Molina and Legler saw the three suspects approach their victim in the 2200 block of West Superior Street and block his path on the sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, The two officers then saw the victim hand items from his pocket to one of the offenders, while the other two offenders patted him down. Seeing this. Officer Molina immediately signaled his partners to move in; and
WHEREAS, After identifying themselves as policemen, Officers Molina, Legler, Butzen and Garcia converged on the three offenders. Two of the offenders were detained immediately. The third offender fled on foot; and
