RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On May 13, 2011, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron, the Commissioner of Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services (FSS), completed her seven-year tenure with the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this fact by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In January 2009, Mayor Richard M. Daley named Dr. Mary Ellen Caron to serve as the Commissioner of Chicago's' Department of Family and Support Services (FSS), which provides continuous support to the city's most vulnerable residents; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this position, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron served at the Chicago Board of Education before assuming the role of Commissioner for the City's Department of Children and Youth Services; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Dr. Mary Ellen Caron, the Department of Children and Youth Services received the Gold Quill of Excellence Award in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron is the Founding Principal of the Frances Xavier Warde School, an elementary school in downtown Chicago with an enrollment of more than seven hundred students; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron serves on the Prevent Child Abuse Taskforce for the City of Chicago and was recently awarded the Women's Initiative Child Link Award for her role in matching the youth of Child Link with counseling and summer mentoring programs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron holds a Ph.D in Education Leadership and Policy from Chicago's Loyola University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Ellen Caron will begin a new chapter as President and CEO of the Hope Institute for Children and Families in Springfield, which works with twenty-nine thousand Illinois children with autism and other developmental disabilities; now, therefore
