Title: Gratitude extended to James Cuno for numerous contributions to Art Institute of Chicago

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, James Cuno has announced his upcoming departure as Director of the Art Institute of Chicago, following seven years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Named Director of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004, James Cuno has preserved the core values of the museum while promoting all aspects of institutional growth; and
WHEREAS, Under the highly knowledgeable and expert direction of James Cuno, attendance at the museum has grown a dramatic thirty-three percent; and
WHEREAS, James Cuno is best known for his expansion of the Art Institute's Modern Wing, which opened in 2009 and includes 264,000 square feet of gallery space, that features contemporary art, architecture and design; and
WHEREAS, Widely admired for his passionate leadership style, James Cuno will be dearly missed by his colleagues at the Art Institute of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Effective August 1, 2011, James Cuno will assume the role of President and CEO of The J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this eighteenth day of May, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude to James Cuno for his numerous contributions to the Art Institute of Chicago and do hereby wish him much success in his future endeavors; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James Cuno.
