TRIBUTE TO THOMAS M. LEAHY
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Thomas M. Leahy, an outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Quigley Preparatory, Thomas M. Leahy earned a degree from St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary, and his Masters of Philosophy at Loyola University; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Leahy loved his family, his dogs, engaging in discussion about the issues he encountered when reading his newspapers and enjoyed keeping up with local and global politics; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Leahy was known to most as Father Tom. He was a priest assigned to Old St. Patrick's Church at a time when its neighborhood was what most referred to as "Skid Row". In the early I 970s, he helped many Latino immigrants adapt to their new home; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Leahy left the priesthood and worked in a variety of different positions; a DCFS Assistant Director of Child Abuse Investigation, a hospital Director of Organizational Development and a Corporate Senior Outplacement Consultant. One of the many positive intangible talents of Mr. Leahy was to see potential of people in the most inconspicuous of places and to help actualize that potential; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Leahy leaves behind to honor his memory and his celebrate his many achievements his wife of 26 years, Linda Nee Goldberg; his brothers Robert Leahy and James Leahy, and six nephews and two nieces; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard F. Mell of the 33 Ward has informed this august body of this kind and generous man's transition; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 8th Day of June, 2011 AD, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning of the passing of this remarkable citizen and extend our deepest condolence to his great family and all of those whose lives he touched.
