ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Title 15 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by adding a new Chapter 15-14 as follows:
15-14-010. Definitions.
For the purposes of this Chapter:
"Truss" means a framed structural unit made up of a group of triangles arranged in a single plane in such a manner that if loads are applied at the points of intersection of the truss members, only comprehensive or tensile (nonbending) forces will result in the members.
"Truss construction building" means a building, excluding buildings that are classified wholly of primarily as a residential units under Chapter 13-56, in which the roof or floor is supported by trusses.
"Owner" has the meaning ascribed to the term "building owner" in Section 13-14-010. 15-14-020. Display requirement.
Every owner of a truss construction building shall, not later than 60 days after the effective date of this chapter, or 15 days after the completion of building outer wall construction, whichever is later, cause to be affixed and maintained a truss construction emblem on the front of the building. However, where truss construction buildings are part of a planned development, the emblem may be displayed at each entrance to the development in accordance with rules promulgated by the bureau of fire prevention, rather than on each individual building.
 
15-14-030. Registration requirement; fee.
Every owner of a truss construction building shall, not later than 60 days after the effective date of this chapter, or 15 days after the construction of exterior walls, whichever is later, register the building with the bureau of fire protection. The registration shall be on a form prescribed by the bureau of fire protection, and shall be accompanied by a registration fee of$75.
15-14-040. Truss construction emblem.
(a) The truss construction emblem required by this chapter shall have a bright and reflective color or be made of reflective material. The shape of the emblem shall be an isosceles triangle measuring at least twelve (12) inches horizontally and six (6) inches vertically, with a red reflective background and gold reflective letters. The following letters shall be printed on the emblem in a conspicuous size:
"F" to signify a floor with truss construction;
"R" to signify a roof with truss construction; and
"F/R" to signify both a floor and roof with truss construction.
(b) When the emblems are required to be affixed to a building, two emblems shall be permanently affixed to all sides of the building to the left of the main entrance door at a height between eight (8) and twelve (12) feet above the ground level and four (4) to six (6) feet below the roof line.
15-14-050. Penalty.
Any person violates any provision of this chapter shall be subject to a fine of $500. Each day the violation occurs shall constitute a separate and distinct offense.
 
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication.
