Title: Tribute to late Lawrence Eagleburger

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger was the loving and devoted husband of Marlene Ann, nee Heinemann; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger was the much-adored father of three sons to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A distinguished diplomat and public servant, Lawrence Eagleburger served as the 62nd United States Secretary of State under President George H.W. Bush; and
WHEREAS, Prior to assuming this role, Lawrence Eagleburger served as deputy to former Secretary of State James Baker, undertaking and handling complex foreign policy issues; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger held several high-ranking positions during his twenty-seven years with the foreign service, including U.S. Ambassador to Yugoslavia under President Jimmy Carter; and ,
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger was the first foreign service officer in American history to assume the role of Secretary of State; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger chaired the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims, and served on the blue ribbon commission known as The Iraq Study Group; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Eagleburger will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Lawrence Eagleburger imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby commemorate Lawrence Eagleburger for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lawrence Eagleburger.
