At the request of the Commissioner of Housing and Economic Development, I transmit herewith an ordinance authorizing a conveyance of property to the Chicago Transit Authority.

ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago ("City") is a home rule unit of government by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of the State of Illinois of 1970, and as such, may exercise any power and perform any'function pertaining to its government and affairs; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Transit Authority ("CTA") is a municipal corporation under the laws of the State of Illinois, created by the legislature of the State of Illinois on April 12, 1945 pursuant to the Metropolitan Transit Act with the objective of public ownership and operation of a transportation system within the metropolitan area of Cook County, and, in particular, the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, the City is the owner of an approximately 38,812 square foot vacant parcel of property legally located at E. 63rd Street and S. Prairie Avenue and commonly known as 315 E. 63rd Street (as more particularly described on Exhibit A attached to this ordinance, the "Property"); and
WHEREAS, the CTA Board of Directors, by Ordinance No. 011-37 adopted on May 11, 2011, has found that its is necessary and useful for the CTA to acquire the Property from the City for One and No/100 Dollars ($1.00) in furtherance of its public transit purposes and, in particular, to improve the operations of the CTA's Green Line maintenance yard; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Plan Commission, by its resolution no. 11-071-21 adopted on June 16, 2011, has approved the sale of the Property by the City to the CTA; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
