RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-one; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Wilmette, Robert V. Remini was a widely admired historian and the loving husband of Ruth, nee Kuhner; and

WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini was the much-adored father of Robert W., Elizabeth and Joan and the cherished grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of New York, Robert V. Remini served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in the Atlantic during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini taught at Fordham University for more than a decade before moving to Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini was the first Chair of the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago and founded and chaired the UIC Institute for the Humanities; and

WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini wrote biographies of leading political figures throughout American history, including Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and John Quincy Adams; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, Robert V. Remini was named Historian of the United States House of Representatives and authored its official history which was published in 2006; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert V. Remini serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Robert V. Remini was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Robert V. Remini imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate Robert V. Remini for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and...
