RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Patricia Shelton has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Shelton was a retired journalist who enjoyed a reputation as one of the nation's top fashion editors; and
WHEREAS, Tough, blunt and colorful, Patricia Shelton began her journalism career at the Shreveport Journal in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Shelton was a veteran of newsrooms in Houston and New York and served as the Fashion Editor at the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Shelton's knowledge of the industry was widely acknowledged from Chicago to the fashion capitals of Paris, Rome and Madrid; and
WHEREAS, Ralph Lauren expressed his utmost respect for Patricia Shelton when he said that just one look on her face was all he needed to determine if his fashions worked or failed; and
WHEREAS, During her career, Patricia Shelton earned awards that included a gold medal from the Italian government, two New York Franny Awards for fashion coverage, the Chicago Fashion Exchange Achievement Award, the Marshall Field Award for editorial excellence and the President's Award of the Illinois Fabricare Institute; and
WHEREAS, When Patricia Shelton retired in 1987 renowned fashion icon Oscar de la Renta flew to Chicago to preside over a tribute to her; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Patricia Shelton serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Patricia Shelton to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Shelton was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
