RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll has officially retired as a member of the Chicago Fire Department following more than three decades of distinguished service; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll began his illustrious tenure with the City of Chicago as a firefighter on February 18th, 1980; and
 
WHEREAS, Joseph Carroll's first assignment was a five-year stint at Engine Company 101; and
 
WHEREAS, On June 16, 1986, Joseph Carroll was promoted to Engineer, followed by Lieutenant on August 16,1989 and then Captain on January 1,1996; and
 
WHEREAS, Joseph Carroll's tenure from Engineer through Captain was served in District 5 Relief; and
 
WHEREAS, On May 16, 1996, then Captain Joseph Carroll was assigned to Engine Company 45; and
 
WHEREAS, Joseph Carroll was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2002 and ably served throughout the remainder of his career in the 20th Battalion; and
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll retired at the end of 2011 after serving the citizens of Chicago for thirty-one years; and
 
WHEREAS Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll received four promotions and numerous Unit Citation Awards during his years in service; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Battalion Chief Joseph Carroll for his dedicated service on behalf of the people of the City of Chicago; and
