RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief James McCann has officially retired as a member of the Chicago Fire Department following thirty-four years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief James McCann began his illustrious tenure with the City of Chicago as a firefighter November 16,1978; and
WHEREAS, James McCann started as a firefighter in the 14th Battalion and his first assignment was a four-year stint at Engine Company 38; and
WHEREAS, James McCann was promoted to Lieutenant on November 1, 1990, and assigned to District 3 & District 4 Relief, respectively; and
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief James McCann later found a "home" at Engine Company 109, was promoted to Captain in 1998 and then assigned to Truck 48; and
WHEREAS, In 2000 James McCann was promoted to Battalion Chief and relieved for four years; and
WHEREAS, In 2004 James McCann was assigned to the 19th Battalion where he spent the rest of his career; and
WHEREAS, James McCann retired at the end of 2012 after serving the citizens of Chicago for more than three decades; and
WHEREAS, James McCann received numerous Unit Citation Awards during his years in service; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Battalion Chief James McCann for his dedicated service on behalf of the people of the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Battalion Chief James McCann.
