RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard has officially retired as a member of the Chicago Fire Department following three-and-a-half decades of distinguished service; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard began his illustrious tenure with the City of Chicago as a firefighter on February 1,1977; and
 
WHEREAS, Patrick Sheppard's first assignment was in Paramedic Training followed by a nine-year stint on Tower Ladder 5; and
 
WHEREAS, On August 16, 1989, Patrick Sheppard was promoteti to Engineer and was assigned to District 1 Relief followed by four years at Engine Company 18; and
 
WHEREAS, Patrick Sheppard was then promoted to Lieutenant and was again assigned to District 1 Relief and Engine 18, respectively; and
 
WHEREAS, On July 1, 1999, Patrick Sheppard was promoted to Captain and spent one year at Engine 65 followed by six years on Tower Ladder 39; and
 
WHEREAS, On April 1, 2006, Patrick Sheppard was promoted to Battalion Chief anci over the next six years was assigned to Battalion 17, Battalion 19 anci Battalion 20 and was named Deputy District Chief; and
 
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard retired at the end of 2012 after serving the citizens of Chicago for thirty-five years; and
 
WHEREAS Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard received numerous Unit Citation Awards during his years in service.
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard for his dedicated service on behalf of the people of the City of Chicago; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Battalion Chief Patrick Sheppard.
