RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Effective December 31, 2013, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff will retire from his position as President of the Children's Research Triangle; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this decision by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in the treatment and care of children at risk from prenatal alcohol and drug exposure, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has dedicated his career to helping kids thrive by integrating their primary health care with behavioral health care; and
WHEREAS, The president and founder of the Children's Research Triangle, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has guided that organization to national and international prominence as a leader in the field of children's development and mental health; and
WHEREAS, The author of seven award-winning books, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has provided countless people with the medical and practical information they need to understand the issues and factors associated with the development of high-risk children; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and fruitful career, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has conducted important clinical research that has yielded practical strategies for helping children reach their full potential at home and in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has counseled many prospective adoptive families on the risks and rewards of international adoption; and
WHEREAS, With his consummate skill, wisdom and compassion, Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff has brought hope and healing to many children, parents and families; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commend Dr. Chasnoff for his tireless dedication to helping high-risk children grow and reach their potential and do hereby declare that April, 10, 2013, shall be recognized as Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff.
