RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Resurrection University is a College of Nursing and a College of Allied Health, with a diverse learning community that is dedicated to providing the best health care education to the citizens of Chicago; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University was founded as the West Suburban Hospital School for Nurses on February 17th, 1914 and is celebrating its centennial; and,
WHEREAS, After 98 years in Oak Park, in January, 2013, Resurrection University moved into its new home at Presence Saint Elizabeth Hospital in the heart of Chicago's historic Wicker Park neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University's new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certified campus includes 37,000 square feet, 44 offices, 10 classrooms, and a state-of-the-art simulation learning center; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University, a Roman Catholic institution, prepares students for professional health care careers and provides undergraduate and graduate learning experiences that integrate personal and professional growth, compassionate service, and scholarly activities; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University is committed to helping students gain the healthcare education they need to build both successful nursing, and Heath Informatics and Information Management careers; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University is fully accredited through the Higher Learning Commission as well as the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), under the Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate Degree Programs in Health Information Management; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University's 93% National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) RN pass rate is one of the highest in the nation; and,
WHEREAS, Resurrection University works closely with the City Colleges of Chicago to advance Chicago's students into top tier programs in health care education, leading to well-paying and productive careers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 10th day of December 2014, do hereby salute Resurrection University, its leadership, faculty, students and all of the alumni of the institution's 100 year history for their contributions to the City of Chicago and declare January 7, 2015, the anniversary of Resurrection University's first day of classes in the City of Chicago, to be "Resurrection University Day" throughout Chicago; and,
