RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Cleve E. Carney has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-four; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of DuPage County, Cleve E. Carney was a widely admired philanthropist, civic leader and businessman; and
 
WHEREAS, Cleve E. Carney was the beloved father of Cleve, Jr., Daniel and Jennifer and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Cleve E. Carney earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Dartmouth College and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the U.S Navy, Cleve E. Carney co-owned a successful company, Olsson Roofing, based in Aurora; and
 
WHEREAS, An individual with a tireless commitment to his community, Cleve E. Carney served as a member of the Wheaton Sanitary District for more than thirty-eight years and played a key role in overseeing major projects, like the construction of a massive pipeline; and
 
WHEREAS, Named "Philanthropist of the Year" in 2007 by the DuPage Community Foundation, Cleve E. Carney donated the largest monetary gift in its history to the College of DuPage; and
 
WHEREAS, An ardent supporter of the arts, Cleve E. Carney was a longtime collector of contemporary art work; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Cleve E. Carney serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Cleve E. Carney to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Cleve E. Carney imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate Cleve E. Carney for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of/this resolution be presented to the family of Cleve E. Carney. /
