RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, One of Chicago's most prominent Italian-American civic leaders, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli was the loving husband of Guadalupe Cerrillo and the late Angela; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli was the much-adored father of Jeanine, Toni, Angela, Marguerite and the late Madelyn, the grandfather of nine and the great-grandfather of fifteen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli was raised in Our Lady of the Angels Parish near Iowa Street and Avers Avenue and graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep and Loyola University; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli enjoyed a long and highly successful career as a partner in a chain of currency exchanges that grew to 50 locations in three states during the 1980s; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli organized Festa Italiana, a forerunner of Taste of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A generous philanthropist, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli donated funds to Villa Scalabrini, an Italian-American home for the elderly in Northlake and generously supported St. Ignatius College Prep which named Fornelli Field in his honor; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate Anthony J. "Tony" Fornelli for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
