RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Known for his commanding and optimistic presence, Elder L. Tom Perry was a senior member of the Church of Latter-day Saints and a highly successful business leader; and

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry was the loving husband of Barbara, nee Dayton, and the late Virginia, nee Lee; and

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Logan, Utah, Elder L. Tom Perry served his country in the United States Marine Corps'in Japan after World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry earned a degree in finance from Utah State University and worked as an executive in retail businesses in Idaho, California, New York and Massachusetts before being named a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church in 1974; and

 

WHEREAS, A popular and influential figure, Elder L. Tom Perry carved out a reputation for both affability and effectiveness in church leadership positions; and

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry was the Quorum's second-most senior member; and

 

WHEREAS, In the 1990s Elder L. Tom Perry authored the book, "Living With Enthusiasm" and throughout his life championed the attributes of "a pleasant disposition" and "an even temperament"; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Elder L. Tom Perry serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Elder L. Tom Perry was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Elder L. Tom Perry imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate Elder L. Tom Perry for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copv,of this resolution.be presented to the family of Eldaf) L. Tom Perry. /
