RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz was the loving husband of Patricia O'Brien; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz was the much-adored father of Josh and Ben to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in Beverly Hills, California, Frank Mankiewicz was the son of Sara and Oscar-winning screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz bravely served his country as a member of the United States Army in Europe during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, A highly talented and educated professional, Frank Mankiewicz earned journalism and law degrees before working as an entertainment lawyer, Peace Corps official and political advisor; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz served as presidential campaign Press Secretary to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and made the official announcement of his death following his assassination at the Ambassador Hotel In Los Angeles in 1968; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mainkiewicz described his work with Kennedy as "the shaping influence in my adult life"; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1972 Frank Mankiewicz was Press Secretary to the presidential campaign of Democratic nominee George McGovern; and

 

WHEREAS, During his long and wide-ranging career, Frank Mankiewicz also served as the Regional Director for the Peace Corps in Latin America and as the President of National Public Radio; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Frank Mankiewicz serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Frank Mankiewicz will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Frank Mankiewicz imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate Frank Mankiewicz for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Mankiewicz.
