RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon was a renowned Chicago entertainer and the loving husband for forty-two years of Marilyn; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon was the much-adored father of Dana Damon-Trentadue and Alexa Damon-Soegaard and the grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The son of the late Nick and Demetra Demopoulos, Jimmy Damon was born in Memphis, Tennessee, where his father ran a 24-hour restaurant and he met such futures stars as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty before launching his own singing career; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon came to Chicago in 1971 and appeared regularly at Mister Kelly's, the Empire Room of the Palmer House and other landmark venues; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon was a friend of Frank Sinatra and the only singer authorized in writing to perform the icon's music; and
 
WHEREAS, For four decades, Jimmy Damon personified Chicago entertainment and passionately pursued his craft; and
 
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago dedicated an honorary street sign, Jimmy Damon Way near his Lake Point Tower residence in the Streeterville community; and
 
WHEREAS, Comedian and Chicago area native Bill Murray famously based his Saturday Night Live lounge singer character on Jimmy Damon; and
 
WHEREAS, The talent, style and professionalism of Jimmy Damon enriched the lives of countless fans in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy Damon was a true gentleman who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jimmy Damon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby commemorate Jimmy Damon for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of JimmwDamon.
