MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Kurt Randall Myers, Ph.D., on December 8, 2015, at the age of fifty-one; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born in San Francisco on December 1, 1964, to Professor Carol S. Bruch, and Jack E. (Frances) Myers, Kurt was the beloved husband of Maria De Los Angeles (Angie) Hernandez Myers; loving father of Raquel Jacqueline and Pierce Anthony Myers; dear brother of Margarete Louise Myers Feinstein, Ph.D. (Rabbi Moreley Feinstein); cherished grandson of the late Gordon and Margaret (Taylor) Myers and Ernest Bruch, Ph.D., M.D. (Margarete Willstaetter Bruch, Ph.D.); fond nephew of Kathryn (Carl) Enge, Gordon and the late William and James Myers, Ludwig (Nancy) and Richard (Kathryn) Bruch and Doris Bruch (Richard) Dubielzig; caring cousin of Carl Bruch (Lea Anderson), Andrew Bruch (Lucy Keenan), Elisabeth Brucch, Suzanne Bruch (Josh Sacks), Sonia Dubielzig (Carlos Haeckel), Richard Dubielzig (Hiroko Ishihara), Chris (Heidi) and Jonathan (Jennifer) Enge, Jennifer (John) Pena, Rebecca (Adam) Thronson, Kate (Ben) Bussey, and Davis Myers; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Kurt leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Kurt earliest years were spent in Millbrae and Berkeley, California; Tananarive, Madagascar; Albany California; College Park, Maryland; Davis, California; and Pasing (Munich), Germany. He earned his Bachelor's degree with a double major in Physics and Chemistry from Reed College in 1986, where his inter-disciplinary thesis was A Relationship of a Trinity: A Linear Variational Approach to Calculate the Ground State Energy of Helium Using the Wave Functions From and Exactly Soluble Free-Body Model. At the University of Chicago, he completed his Ph.D. in theoretical Chemistry; and
WHEREAS, He completed his doctoral degree in 1992, designed Angie's wedding ring, then, he and his lovely wife married on September 5, 1992, with a second ceremony on September 12th. They resided in Brooklyn and New Jersey, while he clerked a the American Stock Exchange, became a licensed trader, and accepted his first job, at Citibank, where he built a system to price and risk manage the bank's treasury portfolio. He returned to Chicago, working at First Chicago as a liaison between its traders and programmers. His career took him to ABN AMRO, QAI and Thomson Reuters; and
WHEREAS, After the birth of their children, Kurt and his wife moved to England where they lived for eight marvelous years exploring various countries and the history of those countries. They returned to Chicago in 2012 and Kurt became a co-founder and CTO of socialmarketanalytics.com (SMA), working long, productive hours, using his intellect, excellence as a developer, and people skills to help create new and better products; and
WHEREAS, Kurt was an active and vital member of his community, as well as, a consummate gamer who loved his garden, pets, wine making, reading, baking, astronomy, the outdoors and video games. He was kind, caring and had a wicked sense of humor. He touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity and spirit and will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and member of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Kurt Randall Myers, Ph.D. and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
