RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband for 43 years of Kaaren, nee Sabey; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield was the much-adored father of Lauren, the stepfather of Kim and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Lake Forest, the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield was raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield joined the law firm of Stock, Carlson, Oldfield & McGrath in Wheaton; and
WHEREAS, A civic leader who was committed to his community, the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield was elected to a four-year term on the Glen Ellyn Village Board in 1981 and a four-year term on the board of Glen Ellyn Elementary School District 41 in 1991; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield also served on the boards of the Chicago Baptist Association and the Central Baptist Children's Home; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this nineteenth day of April, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable E. Lawrence Oldfield.
