RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan was a widely respected savings and loan executive and a former Illinois State Senator; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan was the much-adored father of Mary, Kevin and the late John, Jr., to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan was the dear and devoted brother of Kathleen; and
 
WHEREAS, A first-generation Irish-American, the Honorable John J. Lanigan graduated from DePaul University and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force; and
 
WHEREAS, During his tenure from 1965 to 1971 as a member of the Illinois State Senate, the Honorable John J. Lanigan focused on issues such as education reform and fiscal responsibility; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan also held other influential positions of responsibility, including Illinois Savings and Loan Commissioner, Chairman of the Illinois State Board of Elections and Illinois Inspector General; and
 
WHEREAS, During the 1990s, the Honorable John J. Lanigan was the Chief Executive Officer of Illinois-based Olympic Federal Savings & Loan Association; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan was a longtime member of the Union League Club in Chicago where he will be remembered for his dignity, wit and wisdom; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John J. Lanigan serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable John J. Lanigan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Lanigan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable John J. Lanigan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Honorable John J. Lanigan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable John J. Lanigan.
