RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Duilio "Duke" Sorini has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of La Grange Park, Duilio "Duke" Sorini was a legendary Chicago restaurateur and the loving husband of the late Norma Ann, nee Mazzetti; and
WHEREAS, Duilio "Duke" Sorini was the much-adored father of Paulette and Ron, the grandfather of six and the great-grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Duilio "Duke" Sorini was born in Chicago months after his parents emigrated to Chicago from Italy's Tuscany region; and
WHEREAS, Raised on the West Side, Duilio "Duke" Sorini graduated from Harrison High School and joined the United States Army during World War II; and
WHEREAS, A proud patriot and a member of "The Greatest Generation", Duilio "Duke" Sorini bravely served as a flight engineer aboard B-17s and flew 40 missions over Europe; and
WHEREAS, Following the war, Duilio "Duke". Sorini returned to Chicago where with his cousin, Leo Cecchi, he owned and operated Febo restaurant at 2501 South Western Avenue for four decades; and
WHEREAS, Febo, with its tongue-in-cheek motto "Famous For Nothing!", was among handful of old-style Italian restaurants in the tradition of The Como Inn, Club Corsica and Club El Bianco; and
WHEREAS, Known for his charisma and quick wit, Duilio "Duke" Sorini worked in the kitchen and bar and with his cousin expanded the restaurant's menu and wine list; and
WHEREAS, Febo became a popular destination for families, celebrities, sports figures and politicians; and
WHEREAS, Duilio "Duke" Sorini retired from the restaurant in 1989; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Duilio "Duke" Sorini serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Duilio "Duke" Sorini to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Duilio "Duke" Sorini was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Duilio "Duke" Sorini imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate Duilio "Duke" Sorini for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Duilio "Duke" Sorini.
