RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke was a retired member of the Chicago Police Department and the loving husband of Mary Eleanore nee, Coan; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke was the much-adored father of Ann Marie (John, Jr.) Demand, John, Timothy, Eileen, Patrick and the late Daniel and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke was the dear brother of William and the late Margaret and Thomas; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke ably served for 38 years as a valued member of the law enforcement community; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke raised his family in the Wildwood Park community on the North Side where the Bourke home was a welcoming and happy place for neighbors to gather; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward P. Bourke to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Widely respected by those who knew him and worked with him, Edward P. Bourke was an inaugural member of the Emerald Society which promotes Irish culture and goodwill through various social events; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke was also a member of the Illinois Police Association and the Fraternal Order of Police; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward P. Bourke serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward P. Bourke will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward P. Bourke imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this second day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Edward P. Bourke for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward P. Bourke. y
