RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend was a former member of the Indiana General Assembly and the loving husband of Helen; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend was the much-adored father of five children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A Quaker hog farmer from Northwest Indiana, the Honorable Wayne Townsend was the grandson of Indiana Governor M. Clifford Townsend; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend was first elected to office in 1958 and served in both the Indiana House and Senate; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend concluded his tenure in 1986 after serving more than 20 years as a state legislator; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend went on to serve 15 years as a member of the Board of Trustees at Purdue University where he graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1951; and
WHEREAS, In 1984 the Honorable Wayne Townsend won the Democratic nomination for Governor and made Indiana history when he selected a female running mate for the Office of Lieutenant Governor; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Wayne Townsend serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Wayne Townsend to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Wayne Townsend was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Wayne Townsend imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Wayne Townsend for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
