MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Margaret M. "Peggy" Klimek, on July 21, 2014 at the age of eighty nine; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, born on June 28,1925, Peggy was the devoted wife of the late John M. for 59 wonderful years, doting mother of Ellen (Larry) Kaufman, John (Peggy), Michael (Peggy), Phillip (Jodie) and Cathy (Larry) Erst, devoted grandmother of John, Janice (Derek) Boscardin, Dana (Danny) Garber, Erich (Angel) Erst, Megan (Matt) Ahlberg, Kim (Rudy) Carmona, Jen (Bill) Burgstone and Natalie, proud great grandmother of Emily, Ally, Camden, Damian, Abigail, Lillian, Jonathan, Wyatt, Madilyn and Ava; fond sister of Eleanor (the late Jack) Hamilton, the late Loretta (the late Jim) Eaker, Catherine (the late Ed) Barnell and Daniel "Bud" (Lillian) Crowley and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, proving that she could juggle professional and domestic life before it was commonplace, she worked full-time for 28 years at AT&T as a Fraud Inspector and still found time to be a role model as a mother, wife, and community leader; and
WHEREAS, a devoted mother to her children, she valued education not just for her own children, but recognized the importance of education for all children in her community, serving as a member of the Good Counsel High School's Board of Ways and Means for 42 years;
WHEREAS, remaining a resident of the same home in which she raised her children in the dynamic West Walker neighborhood, Peg was an active and admired member of her local community group, the West Walker Civic Association. Founded in 1912, it is one of the oldest neighborhood organizations in Chicago, and has had the support of dedicated and involved community members like Peg, who was an active Board member for over 50 years and served as the organization's Treasurer for 43 years; and
WHEREAS, her civic spirit included serving as an enthusiastic member of the Independence Park Senior Club and Secretary of the Club for two years. Peg was also a mainstay in 39th Ward elections, working tirelessly as an election judge for over 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Peg Klimek has dedicated her life to others without fanfare or accolades. In 2008, she was nominated and inducted into "The Senior Hall of Fame" in recognition for her selfless contributions to her neighbors and her community; and
WHEREAS, Peg was known in her community as an outspoken and friendly presence, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirtieth day of July, 2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Margaret M. "Peggy" Klimek and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
