RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Warren Christopher has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Los Angeles, California, Warren Christopher was the loving and devoted husband of Marie; and
WHEREAS, Warren Christopher was the much-adored father of four children and the beloved grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The distinguished career of Warren Christopher included serving as Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton and acting as chief negotiator for the 1981 release of the American hostages in Iran; and
WHEREAS, For more than five decades, Warren Christopher divided his time between high profile positions within the federal government and a flourishing legal career in California; and
WHEREAS, A foreign policy expert, Warren Christopher presided over the normalization of diplomatic relations with China, acted as a negotiator in matters centering on the Middle East and the Balkans, and was instrumental in winning Congressional ratification of the Panama Canal treaties; and
WHEREAS, As an attorney, Warren Christopher led the prestigious Los Angeles law firm of O'Melveny & Myers; and
WHEREAS, The brilliant mind and skillful diplomacy of Warren Christopher made him a great statesman of his era and a true steward of the public trust; and
WHEREAS, Warren Christopher inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Warren Christopher serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Warren Christopher will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Warren Christopher imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate Warren Christopher for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Warrer/^lhristopher.
