WHEREAS, the Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB School located in City of Chicago School District 299, is the 2018 recipient of The Oral Health Forum Community Champion Award; and
WHEREAS, The Oral Health Forum is a community-centered grass-roots initiative committed to improving oral health programs and services for all Chicago residents through education, assessment, policy/program development, and collaboration; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, the Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB School is an Authorized International Baccalaureate School and Fine and Performing Arts Magnet; and
WHEREAS, in 2014 the Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB School was one of thirty-nine South Side schools selected to participate in a pilot program and was assigned to the Oral Health Forum to improve the oral health of children requiring urgent dental care treatment; and
WHEREAS, the Oral Health Forum developed a program intervention utilizing the Whole School, the Whole Community and the Whole Child mode, three schools including the Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB were identified as having a very high needs requirement; and
WHEREAS, the Oral Health Forum developed a "Champion Partnership" to encourage Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB School to move forward with a comprehensive oral and overall health program for the student body; and
WHEREAS, the program included a number of planned events including scheduled parents' breakfasts, oral education instruction for students participation in report card pick-up days and dental van events providing treatment in conjunction with Mobile Care Chicago; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council do hereby recognize and congratulate Principal, Dr. Judith Sauri, members of the faculty and administration and the students ofthe Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts IB School on this twentieth day of September, 2018 for winning the Oral Health Forum Community Champion Award; and
