RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband of Alice and the late Anne; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was the much-adored father of Donald, Brian, Jerome and Matthew and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was the dear brother of John, Richard and the late James; and
WHEREAS, A native of Oak Park, Donald Emmett Casey served his country during World War II as a navigator on B-17 Flying Fortress bombers and was shot down in June of 1944; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was a prisoner of war until he and his fellow prisoners were liberated in April of 1945 by General George S. Patton's Third Army; and
WHEREAS, Following the war, Donald Emmett Casey graduated from Dartmouth College and Loyola University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey went into private practice and specialized in litigation, transactional work and insurance defense; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey wrote a book recalling his wartime experiences entitled "To Fight for My Country, Sir!"; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was active in the Pritzker Military Museum in Chicago and was a former President of both the Chicago Athletic Association and the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Donald Emmett Casey serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Donald Emmett Casey to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Donald Emmett Casey was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Donald Emmett Casey imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2016, do hereby commemorate Donald Emmett Casey for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Emmett ©asey. /
