WHEREAS, p true son of Mayfair. Tactical Sergeant Donald J. Daniels was chosen by the Mayfair Veterans
Committee and the Mayfair Lions Club to be honored at the Salute to American Heroes Ceremony for f
outstanding public service; and H(-
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this special occasion byflhe Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
t, _, WHEREAS, Don was raised in the Mayfair area, where his grandparents owned their own business, Don's j2-/f?")
father became jtfTce/resident of Clifford F. Schultz & Co., his mother a Chicago ^oliceOJTicer for(fiventv-fiv£)
years spending most of her career in 16th District; and " " -■ .
WHEREAS, His parents example of public service and hard work inspired Don to become a second generation Chicago /Police Officer joining the force in 1991. He began his career at the 24lh District before transferring to 17th District in 1999. Don worked on a Gang .Team for two years, and received a promotion that transferred him to the 151,1 District. After three years of being a Tactical Sergeant in 15l" District, ever the Mayfair loyalist, he C/,c requested a transfer to the 17th District to be closer to home; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Daniels received the Chicago Police Departments Award of Valor for an act of heroism in 2011. He was leading his team in a robbery decoy mission along Lawrence Ave. and during the mission, an unrelated incident occurred nearby in which an offender shot at a citizen. Sergeant Daniels observed the offender fleeing the area and gave chase. The offender pointed his handgun at Sergeant Daniels. Sergeant Daniels discharged his weapon and wounded the offender who was then arrested and charged with /fttempted" ^ /C ^urder, Aggravated /Assault andJPbssession of a/firearm by aj&ang^lember; and
WHEREAS, While Don takes great pride in his career, his greatest role is that of husband and father. He and his_o^--^. wife Kathy were high school sweethearts and just celebrated their(fweTity-sbdJ5>anniversary. They have two daughters who have graduated college, one from Purdue and the other from University or Illinois, and a son whos^7j' is currently attendingJLJniversity of Illinois. Sergeant Daniels is a true leader and has gained the respect of those who surround him. both at home and in the Chicago Police Department; now, therefore,
