RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Audrey Jahns, an outstanding young citizen and resident of the 39th Ward, has accomplished innumerable triumphs as a student, an athlete and a volunteer at Regina Dominican High School; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Audrey's various achievements by Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Audrey's extracurricular activities include Varsity Cross Country, Captain of the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Softball teams, RDA A Spirit Club Officer, Ambassador Member, National Spanish Society Member, Tri-M Music Society as a violinist, Junior Peer Leader, Senior Peer Leader and the Big Sister Program, a program which helps freshmen with their transition into high school; and
WHEREAS, Audrey spends much of her time volunteering for various causes including the Ronald McDonald House at Lurie's Children's Hospital where she has made breakfast for sick children and their families, and Misericordia Home; and
WHEREAS, using her talents for sports and her passion for helping others, Audrey assists with grade school basketball tournaments, and in September of 2014 she worked with the Boy Scouts to renovate special education school parks, specifically the "Julia S. Molloy Education Center Park", and has also spent much of her time at sports camps helping girls to better their skills and confidence in specific sports; and
WHEREAS, Audrey has held A Honors and Highest Honors from grades 9-12. In January 2015 she was inducted into the National Honor Society and received the honor of Illinois State Scholar. Audrey is also a recipient of the 2014 S. Martinelle Bonnell Scholarship for Leaders; and
WHEREAS, after discovering her passion for helping others, especially children, Audrey has decided to major in Speech Therapy and Communication Disorders. Seeing improvement in others is a goal that Audrey hopes to achieve in her future work in speech therapy; and
WHEREAS, Audrey is a role model for those around her and is mature beyond her years, constantly encouraging others to do better and excel. A proven scholar, leader and athlete, she exhibits high character in her service to others and the City of Chicago is lucky to have her as a young leader; now therefore
WHEREAS, The mayor and the members of the City Council wish to congratulate Audrey Jahns on her successful time in high school and wish her well as she moves to college and look forward to her many future contributions to her community; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby congratulate and pay tribute to Audrey Jahns for all of her amazing accomplishments and wish her great success in college; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Audrey Jahns.
