RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-eight; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan was a legendary Chicago journalist and the loving and devoted wife of Leonard Aronson; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan was the much-adored mother of Patrick and the grandmother of two to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan wrote for the Chicago Tribune for twenty-four years and earned a reputation as one of the finest female writers in the history of Chicago journalism; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan began her career with the City News Bureau of Chicago and later wrote for United Press International before joining the Chicago Tribune in the 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Known for her precise reporting and poetic prose, Anne Keegan focused on the day-to-day stories of Chicago's working class population; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan captured the essence and dignity of a range of blue-collar Chicagoans that included police officers, firefighters, soldiers, waitresses and factory workers; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Anne Keegan gave voice to individuals the media seldom focused on and described how their lives intersected with issues of the day; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan retired from the Chicago Tribune in 1997 and went on to publish both a children's book and a nonfiction work about crime as seen through the eyes of a Chicago police officer; and
WHEREAS, Anne Keegan was the begrudging recipient of numerous awards, always insisting that her work was not about her, but about the people she featured in her articles; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the North Side, Anne Keegan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Anne Keegan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby commemorate Anne Keegan for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ann© Keegan.
