RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette Tufano has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 99; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Little Italy, Antoinette Tufano was the beloved daughter of the late Domenico and Maria; and
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette Tufano was the dear sister of the late Michael, Theresa, Christopher, Joseph, Rose and Salvatore; and
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette "Auntie Toni" Tufano was known by all as a fixture in the old neighborhood at Aberdeen Street and Vernon Park Place; and
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette Tufano was the original baker at the Tufano's Bakery which was known for its Old World recipes, handed down through the generations; and
 
WHEREAS, During the Great Depression, the bakery helped to sustain the Near West Side community by handing out free bread to customers, many of whom were considered friends; and
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette Tufano was also a mainstay in the kitchen of Tufano's Vernon Park Tap, which opened across the street in the 1930s, and remains a vibrant destination for Chicago diners; and
 
WHEREAS, The restaurant was awarded the America's Classics Award and has not only catered to working-class Chicagoans, but also to high-profile patrons like singer Frank Sinatra and novelist Nelson Algren; and
 
WHEREAS, For many years, Antoinette Tufano worked full-time at a local bank and a nearby medical facility while working nights and weekends at the family-run business; and
 
WHEREAS, Antoinette Tufano will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and neighbors; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Antoinette Tufano imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Antoinette Tufano for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
