RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Marie "Cookie" D'Amico, nee Laurino, on January 9, 2015 at the age of seventy-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on April 27, 1941, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago, and was a natural caretaker to her siblings and family beginning at a young age; and
 
WHEREAS, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico married her husband, John, and together they raised two boys, John and James. Devoted to her family and committed to being an active and involved parent, she was a dedicated wife and mother; and
 
WHEREAS, The couple were married for more than fifty years and truly exemplified a committed and eternal love; and
 
WHEREAS, An avid baker and excellent cook, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico' delighted in hosting family and friends for a meal where she was considered the "life ofthe party" with her quick wit and sense of humor and welcoming and warm spirit that loved bringing people together; and
 
WHEREAS, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico was an involved grandmother, supportive family member, and loyal friend to many, even in the twilight of her life, and she will be remembered for her infectious laugh, bright smile, and fierce dedication to family. She leaves a legacy of compassion, dignity, and love; and
 
WHEREAS, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico was the loving mother to the Honorable John (Christine) and James (Dawn); cherished and loving Nana to Jennifer, Michelle, Johnny and Jimmy; loving sister to the Honorable William Laurino (Roseanne), the Honorable Margaret Laurino (Randy Barnette); loving daughter of the late Honorable Anthony and Marie (Peggy) Laurino; loving sister-in-law to Isabella Mrugacz (the late Eugene), the late Angela and Albert Kaechele; and the loving aunt, treasured cousin and friend to many; and
 
WHEREAS, Marie "Cookie" D'Amico touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore
 
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-first day of January 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Marie "Cookie" D'Amico and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marie "Cookie" D'Amico as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
