WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera, distinguished multi-family residential housing developer, president of Supera Asset Management, civic entrepreneur and devoted husband, father, and grandfather has gone to his eternal reward; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera was the loving husband of Roslynne "Roz" Supera, father of John and Jill, and the grandfather of Oliver, Isabel and Benjamin; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera grew up in Chicago, attended the Daniel Boone Elementary School, Senn High School and earned a degree from DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera earned his real estate license at age twenty-one and began his career in real estate in the 1960s by joining the family real estate development business founded by his father, Louis H. Supera, in 1941; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera and his father expanded the company's holdings in the 1960s by transitioning from North Side and Lincoln Park apartment building renovation to multi-family rental, condominium and townhome development; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera built a large North Side real estate portfolio by venturing west and north of Lincoln Park to improve and gentrify existing housing stock; and

WHEREAS, In the early 1970s Michael "Mickey" Supera and home developer Richard Zisook formed Sandz Development and developed a number of notable properties, including Eugenie Terrace Townhomes and The Whitney; and

WHEREAS, The Supera Asset Management rental portfolio peaked at 3,000 units during the 1970s; and

WHEREAS, In the 1980s, Michael "Mickey" Supera expanded the family business to include residential development in partnership with Richard Zisook and the Belgravia Group; and

WHEREAS, The partnership built hundreds of townhomes in Lincoln Park, transforming the community into one of the most desirable residential locations in the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera, recognized for his high ethical standards and progressive ideas for building vibrant community housing, was a 2010 inductee into the Chicago Association of Realtors Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera was a founding member of the Lincoln Park Builders of Chicago and the recipient of numerous C.A.R. Good Neighbor Awards; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Michael "Mickey" Supera and his family generously supported numerous philanthropic causes including the Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, the University of Chicago Hospital, the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation, the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago, Working in the Schools, and the United States and Illinois Holocaust Memorial; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this first day of November 2016, do hereby commemorate Michael "Mickey" Supera for his grace-filled life and do hereby express condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael "Mickey" Supera.
