RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was a widely admired suburban elected official and the loving husband of the late Phyllis, nee Twery; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was the much-adored father of Sharon Sutker McGowan, the Honorable Shelley Sutker-Dermer, the Honorable Edie Sue, Allen and the late Edward and the grandfather of eight; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was the dear brother of Ada Rabinowitz and Irwin; and
WHEREAS, A native of Forest Park, the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served his country as a member of the United States Army in Europe during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Skokie, the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker enjoyed a long and highly successful career in politics and was a former Chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was instrumental in bringing to Skokie the Northshore Sculpture Park, the 2nd District Courthouse and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served as Democratic Committeeman from 1978 to 2006 and was a Skokie Trustee from 1965 to 1969; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991 and was a Cook County Commissioner from 1994 to 2002; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was known for his generosity of spirit and was active in Jewish charitable causes, including NA'AMAT USA; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Monorable Calvin R. Sutker.
