RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood, the 4th Lord Wedgwood of Barlaston England, has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of fifty-nine; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood was the loving husband of Lady Mary Regina Wedgwood, nee Quinn; and
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood was the much-adored father of the Honorable Alexandra Mary Kavanaugh Wedgwood to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on his family's farm in Kenya, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood was the dear brother of the Honorable Susan Wedgwood DeSantana and the Honorable Sarah Wedgwood Bitove; and
 
WHEREAS, Piers Anthony Wedgwood attended Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, was commissioned to the Royal Scots and rose to the rank of Captain; and
 
WHEREAS, A direct descendant of Josiah Wedgwood, the founder of the legendary Wedgwood pottery company, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood devoted his life to the art of English ceramic manufacturing and was very active in keeping alive the reputation of the contemporary Wedgwood business; and
 
WHEREAS, The heritage, charm and elegance of Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood made him an ideal ambassador for Wedgwood as he played an instrumental role in opening new markets in India, China and Russia; and
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood also served on the Board of Trustees of the Wedgwood Museum; and
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood was an active member of the House of Lords for more than twenty-five years; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood was a devoted husband and father widely admired for his kindness and generosity; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of March, 2014, do hereby commemorate Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lord Piers Anthony Wedgwood.
