RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Fred Thompson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 73; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Fred Thompson was a former United States Senator from Tennessee whose careers included practicing law, acting and politics; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of a car salesman, the Honorable Fred Thompson was born in Sheffield, Alabama and was raised in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Fred Thompson graduated from Memphis State University and earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University; and

 

WHEREAS, Known for his tall stature and booming voice, the Honorable Fred Thompson worked as a lawyer in Nashville and in 1969 became an Assistant United States Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, As an actor, the Honorable Fred Thompson appeared in 20 motion pictures, including The Hunt for Red October, In the Line of Fire and Cape Fear; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Fred Thompson ably served as a member of the United States Senate from 1994 to 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Senate, the Honorable Fred Thompson played a role in the television series Law & Order, and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Fred Thompson serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Fred Thompson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Fred Thompson was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his wife, Jeri Kehn, and his five children, the Honorable Fred Thompson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of November, 2015 do hereby commemorate the Honorable Fred Thompson for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Fred Thompson.
