RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich was the loving and devoted wife of the late Ken Dillon, Sr. and the late George Vucanovich; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich was the much-adored mother of Patricia, Kenneth, Tom, Susan and the late Michael, the cherished grandmother of 13 and the beloved great-grandmother of 19 to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich was the first woman to represent Nevada in the United States Congress; and
 
WHEREAS, Elected seven times to the House of Representatives from Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich served on the House Interior and Appropriations Committee and the Subcommittee on Military Construction; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich played a prominent role in national politics as a leader of the conservative wing of the Republican Party; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Barbara Vucanovich was known for her willingness to put partisan considerations aside in favor of the best interests of Nevada; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Barbara Vucanovich.
