WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. was a widely admired Minnesota business leader and the loving husband of the Honorable Kathleen Blatz and the late Irene; and

WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. was the much-adored father of Wheelock III, Pennell, Joseph and Ben; and

WHEREAS, Born in St. Cloud, Wheelock Whitney Jr. attended Yale University where he was a fellow member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity with the future President George H. W. Bush; and

WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. went to enjoy a long and highly successful career in investment banking with the firm Dain and Co., which he helped turn into a regional financial powerhouse that eventually became RBC Wealth Management; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional achievements, Wheelock Whitney Jr. was a civic leader, actively involved in local politics and ran unsuccessfully for Minnesota governor and United States senator; and

WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. was instrumental in bringing major league baseball and hockey to the Twin Cities, served on the Twins board for 24 years and was a former co-owner of the Minnesota Vikings; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Wheelock Whitney Jr. serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Wheelock Whitney Jr. to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Wheelock Whitney Jr. was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Wheelock Whitney Jr. imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby commemorate Wheelock Whitney Jr. for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Wheelock Whitney Jr.
