RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, David S. Broder has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago Heights, David S. Broder was a widely admired journalist and the loving and devoted husband of Ann; and

WHEREAS, David S. Broder was the much-adored father of George, Joshua, Matthew and Michael and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A renowned political correspondent and columnist, David S. Broder served at The Washington Post for more than forty years; and

WHEREAS, David S. Broder's writing career spanned eleven White House administrations and earned him a Pulitzer Prize for commentary; and

WHEREAS, During the course of his career, David S. Broder traveled countless miles per year and dedicated a quarter of a million words to the documenting of political history; and

WHEREAS, As a political writer, David S. Broder was very interested in the views of the electorate, and spent hours talking with voters about the issues of the day; and

WHEREAS, David S. Broder was the author of seven books, and was a popular television commentator, having appeared on NBC's Meet the Press more than four-hundred times; and

WHEREAS, Referred to as a legend at The Washington Post, David S. Broder was seen by his colleagues as fair, wise, honest, and immensely dedicated to his work; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of David S. Broder serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, David S. Broder will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, David S. Broder imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate David S. Broder for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Se Broder.
