RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Sauganash neighborhood, Dr. Joseph R. Nora was a widely admired member of the medical community and the loving husband of the late Dorothea; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora was the much-adored father of nine children and the grandfather of twenty-eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Joseph R. Nora graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora interned at Cook County Hospital and served as a flight surgeon with the United States Air Force during the 1950s; and
WHEREAS, In 1963 Dr. Joseph R. Nora formed Nora Medical Group with his three physician brothers, all of whom were skilled doctors with a strong work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora ably served as the Medical Director of Columbus Hospital and oversaw the merger of Columbus, Cuneo and Cabrini hospitals into a single medical center; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora filled the lives of others with his goodness and was revered by patients for his listening skills; and
WHEREAS, Following a highly distinguished career in the medical profession, Dr. Joseph R. Nora retired in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora was a recipient of the Mount Carmel High School Humanitarian Award in 2010; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Joseph R. Nora serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph R. Nora was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Joseph R. Nora imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate Dr. Joseph R. Nora for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
