RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Aldermen Edward M. Burke and Roberto Maldonado; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele was a Commissioner of the Cook County Board representing the 2nd District whose long and highly distinguished career in public service was marked by kindness and integrity; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele was appointed to the seat in 2006 after the retirement of his mother, Commissioner Bobbie Steele, and was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014; and
WHEREAS, In addition to representing his West Side district, the Honorable Robert Steele served as President Pro Tempore of the Cook County Board and the Forest Preserve Board and was the Chairman of the Environmental Control Committee and the Contract Compliance Committee; and
WHEREAS, Prior to serving on the Cook County Board, the Honorable Robert Steele was a community outreach manager for the Chicago Park District and was active with not-for-profit organizations and hospital boards in his community; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele also served on the Mt. Sinai Hospital Board of Directors and was a former Trustee of the National Association of Black County Officials; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele dedicated his life to advancing the highest ideals of public service and to strengthening neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Steele reived a kidney transplant from his sister, Joyce, in 2010 and worked to educate the public about the need for people to consider organ donation; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Robert Steele serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Robert Steele to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Robert Steele imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Robert Steele for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable/Copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Robert Steele.
