RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 101; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago'"City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward -M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of the Gold Coast, Jerome Stone was a widely admired philanthropist and the loving husband of Marion and the lafe Evelyn; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone was the much-adored father of James, Ellen and Cynthia, the grandfather of seven and the great-grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance;and
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone oversaw the growth of the family packaging business, Stone Container Corporation; and
 
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Jerome Stone began working in the family business which was run by his father and older brothers while still a student at Schurz High School; and
 
WHEREAS, The company soon began selling corrugated boxes and Jerome Stone helped oversee its expansion arid growth over the coming decades; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone was the Founding President and Honorary Chairman of the Alzheimer's Association which he worked to establish in 1980; and
 
WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1984, Jerome Stone served as Chairman ofthe Board of Trustees of Roosevelt University where he had been actively involved for many years; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone was also a major fundraiser and contributor to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jerome Stone serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Jerome Stone will be dfearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; arid
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jerome Stone imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of January, 2015, do hereby commemorate Jerome Stone for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jerome/Stone. /
