RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A widely admired business and civic leader, James Russell Donnelley was the loving husband for 38 years of Nina, nee Herrmann; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley was the much-adored father of Niel and Nicole and the grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley was the dear brother of Thomas, Robert and David; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in Lake Forest, James Russell Donnelley graduated from Dartmouth College and served his country in the United States Navy; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley earned a master's degree in business from the University of Chicago before becoming a printing executive with R.R. Donnelley 85 Sons Company; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley retired as Vice Chairman of the company founded by his great-grandfather and continued to serve on its board until he was 70 years old; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley generously served on numerous civic and philanthropic boards, including The Chicago Public Library Foundation, The Chicago Youth Centers and The National Merit Scholarship Corporation where he was Chair; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James Russell Donnelley serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James Russell Donnelley to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, James Russell Donnelley was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James Russell Donnelley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirty-first day of October, 2018, do hereby commemorate James Russell Donnelley for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Russell Donnelley.
