RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Evanston, James Richard "Jim" Hoel was the loving husband for 68 years of the late Jean; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel was the much-adored father of Rick, Gil and Kim, the grandfather of six and the great-grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and was trained to serve as a navigator and bombardier on a B-26 Marauder; and
 
WHEREAS, On May 17, 1943, James Richard "Jim" Hoel's plane was shot down over Holland on the way to its first bombing mission; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel was captured by German troops and spent the next two years in Stalag Luft III, the prisoner of war camp made famous by the film, "The Great Escape"; and
 
WHEREAS, Following the war, James Richard "Jim" Hoel graduated from Colgate University and pursued a career in advertising sales with the Chicago Tribune and WMAQ; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel later worked for Baird 85 Warner as a Vice President and Manager of its real estate office in Evanston until 2002; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and the Chicago and Evanston Rotary Clubs; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James Richard "Jim" Hoel serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James Richard "Jim" Hoel to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, James Richard "Jim" Hoel will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James Richard "Jim" Hoel imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of September, 2014, do hereby commemorate James Richard "Jim" Hoel for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jarries Richard "Jim" Hoel.
